  • Announcement from Mrs. Wideman, Principal of MMS

The district has decided to move to total virtual instruction/learning beginning Thursday, December 10, 2020.  There will be no face-to-face beginning Thursday.   All instruction will be virtual through December 18, 2020.

We will return to the Hybrid schedule when students return on January 6, 2021.  COVID-19 numbers will be monitored during the winter break.  If you are able, I encourage everyone to get tested over the winter break.  The district will be placing a Google form on the district website over the winter break. It is asked that you complete this form if you test positive, or you are in direct contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.  Notifying the district helps to prepare for student and staff return in January.

     Parents/Guardians/Students:

    • Virtual classes and coursework will continue as it is. All students will need to log-on virtually with his/her teacher during his/her regular class time.  Attendance will be strongly enforced.
    • MAP testing that was scheduled for Wednesday, 12/9 and Friday, 12/11 of this week will be RESCHEDULED to a later date. You will be notified in advance of the new testing dates.
    • Benchmark testing (nine week testing) will be administered after winter Break.

     Students:

    • Make sure you communicate with your teachers in Google Classroom every day. If you have questions about classroom assignments, email your teachers directly.
    • Athletics will continue but without spectators.

Thank you for your support and cooperation in making sure your child is in class virtually every day.

  • Important information from Mrs. Wideman

    Parents/Guardians/Students.
This is Gena Wideman, your middle school principal. I would like to share with you a few needed to know items.
First, teachers have begun individual student data meetings to address student strengths and weaknesses. During the meeting, teachers will discuss individual MAP and benchmark scores and assist your child with setting goals to help them improve academically. The meetings may take place either face-to-face or virtually. If virtually, please make sure your child logs on with their teacher as directed to complete the meeting.

Second, we are nearing the end of the 1st nine weeks. If you signed your child up for virtual learning for just the first nine weeks, please make sure to come into the main office and see Ms. Middleton for updating your form. This is very important as we prepare to enter the 2nd nine weeks, keeping in-line with COVID-19 guidelines and staff and student safety. If you have any questions, you may contact Ms. Middleton in the front office @ (864) 443-2243.

Lastly, please be reminded that attendance is a must, not only required by MCSD, but required by South Carolina. Students should log-onto each class every day. The middle school follows the high school and is on period attendance. Logging on is not just to say “I’m here.” Students should be visible to the teacher, remain in class until given permission by the teacher to leave, be out of bed and be dressed appropriately, completing assignments before the deadline.

  • Important Information from Dr. Hembree

    • All students will need to wear a mask upon entering school and on all school buses.  All car riders will also need to wear a mask upon getting out of the vehicle and walking into school.  Students will be asked to wear a mask throughout the instructional day.
    • Each student will have his/her temperature taken upon arrival to school.  If students have a fever, they will be taken to our designated isolation room (one per school) and will remain there until a parent/guardian can pick them up.
    •  We will begin meal deliveries this week.  Students will be provided with breakfast and lunch on the “off days” if participating in a hybrid model, and of course, will be provided with breakfast and lunch each day if participating in our virtual academy.  All students will be provided with breakfast and lunch on Fridays as well.  If you do not wish to receive these meal deliveries, please contact our cafeteria manager, Mrs. Deborah Walls.  However, if you wish to receive the meal deliveries and do not receive them, please contact Mrs. Walls as well.
    • Lastly, you will be receiving some guidance from our district nurse, Mrs. Marjorie Batchelor, which outlines DHEC policies and procedures that we will follow.  Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or need additional guidance as it pertains to COVID-19 and the procedures we will follow.

Let’s have a great first week back, Chiefs!  The best is yet to come.
