The School year consists of 180 school days. Elementary and middle school students must attend 170 days through the course of a school year to receive credit.

 

High school students are on on a 4 by 4 block taking four (4) classes first semester and four (4) classes second semester. Days of attendance for high school student are different than elementary and middle school students. High school students need to meet seat time. Students taking semester classes may only miss two (2) days each semester. 

 

Parents must send an excuse for every absence that states the reason for the absence that indicates the parent's awareness and approval of the student's absence.

Students are not allowed to miss more than ten (10) days unless there is verifiable documentation for each absence above ten (10). This documentation must be submitted within (10) days from the date of return to school. Verifiable documentation is defined as a written statement from an appropriate agency, physician, dentist or parent. The required parent excuses are not considered documentation for absences above ten (10). Absences for which verifiable documentation cannot be presented will be unlawful, and if the number of unlawful days exceeds ten (10), students may be denied credit for work completed during the year. Every reasonable effort will be made to contact parents of student who do not bring excuses to school or who have accumulated either three (3) consecutive unlawful absences or five (5) total absences. A conference with parents will be requested when five (5) unlawful absences have been accumulated.

 

When the number of unlawful days reaches seven (7), a referral will be made to the attendance office. If the attendance office cannot obtain documentation for these absences or does not receive an adequate response from parents, a referral will be made to the court for truancy.

 

Promptness is expected; tardiness to class is unacceptable. Tardiness is defined as the arrival of a student in the classroom beyond the scheduled time that homeroom or class is to begin. Students who are tardy interrupt instruction, distract other students, and miss part of class. Tardiness is both an attendance and a discipline problem.
