Kindergarten-5th Grade 2/24/2020

Measurement is the thing behind all we will do in March and April.!

Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade are learning and/ or reviewing what an inch looks like, and will be measuring their hands, feet and other items. After that they will be doing some artistic activities to allow them to practice estimating spaces, cutting and tying to make a small neck pillow!

Grades 2 and 3 will be using a ruler to practice and review measurements of  1 / 8”, 1 / 4”, 1 / 2”, and 1”. After students have passed the project criteria of marking and drawing lines every quarter of an inch, they will make a project (card) out of quilled paper. Once this is complete students will sew a stuffed animal to take home.

Grade 4 students will be measuring and reviewing the same measurement as grades 2 and 3, but will be using the correct measurements to make a train car out of cardstock. This project was developed by Mr. Perrin, and he has put together kits for each child in 4th grade. He has utilized his educational and work experiences to share this idea with the students, in an effort to strengthen the students’ measurement skills in a practical way.

Students are also looking at train art to develop their own “tags” for their train cars. I am so thankful for Mr. Perrin and his many contributions to the Art room!

Grade 5 students are measuring too!! The students will be using their measurement skills to design shape designs using compasses, protractors and rulers, and will build three dimensional forms out of basic shapes. For example, students will use paper and scissors, sticks and straws, and K’nex and Legos to build basic three dimensional forms. Some students will choose to use their sewing skills to make a three dimensional form.

We will be busy for sure!!!    Please stop by and volunteer!!!    Extra hands are greatly appreciated!!!
