US History Honors

  • The Honors course offers scaffolded learning opportunities for students to develop the critical skills of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation in a more rigorous and reflective academic setting. Students are empowered to perform at higher levels as they engage in the following: analyzing primary sources and supplementary readings, working in the context of thematically categorized information, becoming proficient in note-taking, participating in Socratic seminars/discussions, emphasizing document-based writing, contrasting opposing viewpoints, solving problems, etc.

    Course Requirements

      1. Daily Warm-Ups: Each day of the class students will spend the first 5 minutes working on assignments in USA Test Prep. Students should check their USA Test Prep at the beginning of each week and ensure that all of their assignments are completed by Thursday of that week.
      2. Assignments: All assignments should be submitted through Google Classroom. Classroom assignments should be turned in at the end of the class period or the following day, depending on teacher instructions.
      3. Vocabulary Football League: Students will be given vocabulary words that they must define in their online notebooks, and study in preparation for the unit vocabulary quiz.
      4. Student-Created Unit Review Guides: Students will work as a class collaboratively to create a study guide for each unit. The unit review guides should consist of student-created questions based on key concepts, events, or people; a vocabulary section; and practice essay questions. The unit review guides must be completed and turned in on the day of the final unit test.
      5. Tests/Quizzes: Tests will be taken online in class on a designated date. If a student is unable to complete the test during the testing time due to illness or other factors it is the student’s responsibility to communicate with the instructor to come up with alternate arrangements for taking the test.
      6. Historical Inquiry Projects: Projects can range from individual to group projects. Students will have at least one project during each unit of study. Projects are worth a major grade.
